Camp Calling - …With over
1000mm (40 inches) of rain in the past 3 months,
Hwange NP has been transformed into an oasis
of brim-filled pans, gallivanting herds of young
wildebeest, impala and zebra and a vibrant spectrum
of birdlife that adorns the skies and waters!
It’s been magical to note that guests
have continued to see Lion, Rhino, Cheetah and
other great sightings despite the heavy rains
and dense vegetation all around.
Rogan the Hide territorial male Lion was just
spotted on a night drive on a wildebeest kill
with 13 cubs all enjoying the feast!
Another Lion kill on a wildebeest occurred
recently just across from camp, and the night
guard said the pride of six drank from the pan
thereafter, but sadly with no guests to catch
the moment.
We were delighted to have avid photographer
Doug Fitzgerald in camp for 8 days and he kindly
shared the Red-billed Teal and Jackal photos
below amongst other great ones – thanks
Doug!
The Elephant herds are obviously sauntering
back our way as they’re being heard breaking
branches at the back of camp in the evenings.
Meantime they have made the most of all the
mud baths at their disposal!

The New Pool
The new plunge pool with teak decking no less,
is just a week or two from completion as I write! |
What Do The Guests
Say?
“This is a beautiful setting & exquisite
camp. I have traveled to 4 other tent encampments
in Kenya & this one is indeed the best.
Thank you for the knowledgeable guides, the
walk, the conversation, the food and ambience.
I will indeed recommend this "1000 best
places to stay" to my traveling friends.”
~CAROL, USA~
“Learnt more here than in 7 years of
school. Fantastic place, awesome staff”
~ MATT(15), AUSTRALIA~
“Second time back to the Hide and equally
as awesome, great staff, great facilities and
of course the animals. Saw 4 of the “Big
Five” this trip and the elusive leopard
was seen on our last trip, so very happy. Hope
to be back in the future, thank you again”
~MICHAEL, VICK & LINDA, AUSTRALIA~
“A cracking time – saw Eles, Lions,
Sable, Cheetah and a world full of birds. Hospitality
and team work so smooth that it was like being
spoilt all the time. Many thanks for a wonderful
few days.
Walks were a treat and will be hard to beat
in life.
~SANDRA MILES TAYLOR, UK~
Words cannot make justice nor describe the
wonderful experience both Micheline and I had
in the last two weeks. From now on Safari means
The Hide at Hwange Nat. Park! Special thanks
to Lauren, Daffy, Pete and Nicholas, and all
involved in making possible this "unique"
experience.

Friends of Hwange Trust
FOH has had a superb start this year. We heartily
welcome Maha Doppelfeld, who is Fundraising
Manager based in Harare; and Mario Gomes who
is based in Hwange NP, fixing all the pans for
all those elephant herds and the rest of the
clans!
Support from Zimbabweans personally and corporately
has been very generous to date, but we have
no illusions that the costs of running 10 pumps
24x7 in the dry season will not come cheaply.
If you’d like to know more information
about FOH please contact

Easter Bunnies!
The bookings for April have been excellent
and we look forward to celebrating a blessed
Easter and Independence Day with old and new
friends alike! If you want to see the Easter
Bunny, you’ll certainly be coming to the
right place as we have hundreds of them, otherwise
known as very own “African Kangaroo”!
Did You Know?
An Elephant drinks about 4,5 litres at a time
by filling its trunk and squirting into its
mouth – it requires on average over 100
litres a day, hence the problem of keeping pans
full in Hwange in the dry season for 30,000
elephant!
